Madina: price of a 50kg bag of imported rice dips slightly for the first time since June

The price of a 50kg bag of imported rice has eased slightly at Madina's main market since Friday, averaging 375,000 Guinean francs, down from 385,000, the first such dip since June according to several wholesalers interviewed this Monday. The drop remains modest but is welcomed by households.
Traders cite an easing of international freight costs in recent weeks, after several months of continuous increases linked to strains on maritime transport. Some wholesalers remain cautious, though, recalling that similar short-lived variations have been seen before without holding.
For Conakry households, rice remains a staple food expense whose price weighs heavily on the monthly budget, particularly for larger families. Several customers interviewed at the market say they are waiting for a more significant drop before increasing their purchases, for now preferring to keep buying in small quantities.
What the creator verified this Monday: the new prices posted by five wholesalers at Madina market, compared with the previous week's readings. What remains to be confirmed: whether the drop will continue in the coming weeks or remain a one-off adjustment.
