Kaloum: EDG schedules power cuts this week to renovate a substation

Électricité de Guinée (EDG) has announced scheduled power cuts in Kaloum this week, to renovate an ageing substation that supplies Conakry's administrative and commercial city centre. The first cuts began this Monday morning in three-hour blocks, following a schedule communicated by neighbourhood.
The substation in question, in service for several decades, has seen more frequent faults since the start of the year, according to EDG, which cites a risk of a prolonged outage if the renovation were not carried out promptly. Administrations, banks and businesses in the city centre are directly affected by the operation.
On the ground, several businesses have invested in generators to limit the impact on their activity during outage windows, an extra cost some traders say is hard to absorb. Administrations, for their part, have rescheduled some appointments to hours without an announced cut.
What the creator verified this Monday morning: the cut effective between 8am and 11am in the Niger market area, in line with the announced schedule. What remains to be confirmed: whether the full schedule will be kept for the rest of the week, as EDG mentions the plan could change depending on how the works progress.
